The MSK Questions Changing Practice—and the Experts Tackling Them
From recognising paediatric warning signs to managing spine-related leg pain and making better return-to-performance decisions, the MSK Workstream at Therapy Show 2026 brings leading practitioners together to address the questions clinicians face every day.
Good MSK education should do more than confirm what clinicians already know. It should challenge assumptions, improve decision-making and provide practical ideas that can be applied as soon as delegates return to work.
That is what the “Every Age, Every Body” MSK Workstream is designed to deliver. Across six keynotes and five breakout sessions, leading voices from clinical practice, research and education will explore MSK care across the lifespan.
Getting paediatric MSK right first time
Children are not simply smaller adults—and seemingly straightforward MSK presentations can sometimes require a very different response.
Consultant Physiotherapist Suzanne Gray and Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Sarah Bamford will use real-world cases to show how early recognition can influence outcomes in paediatric MSK care. Their session will examine the features that help clinicians distinguish benign MSK pain from conditions requiring another approach, strengthening assessment, clinical reasoning and confidence in decision-making.
From healing to genuine capability
When is someone truly ready to return to sport, work or performance? Tissue healing is only one part of that decision.
Consultant Physiotherapist and return-to-sport researcher Uzo Ehiogu will explore how clinicians can move beyond traditional markers of recovery and assess whether a person has regained the capability to meet the demands ahead. It is a valuable session for anyone responsible for progressing rehabilitation and making difficult return-to-performance decisions.
Tackling persistent clinical conundrums
Advanced Practice Spinal Physiotherapist Adam Dobson will examine the uncertainties and common frustrations surrounding spine-related leg pain. His keynote will consider diagnosis, prognosis, treatment planning and effectiveness, highlighting both practical changes clinicians can make now and the evidence gaps likely to shape future practice.
Professor Roger Kerry will turn the focus to neck pain and headaches. With confidence in red-flag assessment and rehabilitation remaining a challenge across current practice, his session will offer knowledge and practical skills to help clinicians strengthen their approach to people presenting with head and neck pain.
Bringing overlooked issues into the MSK conversation
A multidisciplinary session featuring Aisling Freir, Dr Linia Patel and Dr Sarah Rollins will examine pelvic health, endometriosis and menopause in sports medicine. Combining physiotherapy, nutrition and sport and exercise medicine, the case-based discussion will demonstrate why women’s health must be considered a central part of MSK practice.
Beyond the clinic, Helen Welch will explore communities, neighbourhoods and health inequalities, drawing on experience from Northern Ireland to consider how MSK services can respond more effectively to the people and places they serve.
Together, these speakers will connect specialist clinical knowledge with the realities of everyday practice—giving delegates new perspectives, stronger reasoning and ideas they can put into action.
