The hidden dimension of chronic pain: neurodivergence and hypermobility
Neurodivergent traits are increasingly recognised among people living with chronic pain, yet their impact on the experience of pain and engagement with healthcare can remain overlooked. This talk explores the potential intersection between neurodiversity, sensory processing, communication, interoception, executive function and hypermobility, and considers how these factors may contribute to the complexity of chronic pain presentations.
It will also examine challenges that conventional approaches to pain assessment and self-management may create for neurodivergent patients and consider how relatively simple changes to communication, clinical environments and treatment planning can support a more individualised, accessible and effective approach to chronic pain care.
