Kinesiology taping: the evidence has changed — has your practice?
Kinesiology taping has been used clinically for nearly 50 years but the evidence base supporting it looks very different today than it did when many clinicians first learned to tape. So, what has actually changed — and should you change?
This session takes a critical but practical look at the evolution of kinesiology taping research, from almost three decades without a controlled trial to the rapidly expanding evidence base we have today. We’ll examine one of the most persistent questions surrounding taping — “is it just placebo?” — and explore what placebo really means in modern pain science.
Most importantly, this isn’t just an evidence review. We’ll translate the research into clinical practice:
What should you change about the way you apply tape?
How to explain how kinesiology tape works?
Expect some established ideas to be challenged — including some that have been taught on taping courses, even by me.
