Pelvic health, endometriosis and menopause: a multidisciplinary team approach in sports medicine
Women's health is an integral part of musculoskeletal and sports medicine, yet pelvic health, endometriosis and menopause are often overlooked in everyday clinical practice. This practical, case-based session will equip clinicians with the knowledge and confidence to recognise these conditions, integrate screening into routine MSK assessments, and understand when multidisciplinary management can optimise patient outcomes.
Musculoskeletal and Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Aisling Freir will explore how pelvic health fits within sports and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, demonstrating how clinicians can introduce simple pelvic health screening into their practice from tomorrow. She will also discuss recognising the signs and symptoms of endometriosis in an MSK setting, highlighting when persistent musculoskeletal presentations may warrant onward referral and multidisciplinary management.
Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine Dr Sarah Rollins will examine the impact of perimenopause and menopause on musculoskeletal health, performance and physical activity. She will provide an evidence-based overview of menopause assessment and management, including the role of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), practical prescribing considerations, and how clinicians can support women to remain active throughout the menopausal transition.
Women's Health Dietitian Dr Linia Patel will discuss the nutritional strategies that can support women through perimenopause and menopause, exploring how diet can influence symptoms, musculoskeletal health, body composition, bone health and long-term wellbeing.
Through interactive discussion and patient cases, the speakers will demonstrate how they have used a multidisciplinary approach to improve assessment, decision-making and patient care. Delegates will leave with practical screening tools, evidence-based management strategies and greater confidence in addressing women's health across the lifespan within sports and musculoskeletal practice.
