Dr Giles Hazan
GP with Extended Role in MSK Medicine,
Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust
I currently work as a specialist grade doctor for Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust in a Community Pain clinic in Eastbourne, within a multidisciplinary team.
I trained as a doctor at UCL Medical School, gaining an intercalated degree in Psychology during this time, before training as a GP in Brighton and then developing an extended role in Musculoskeletal Medicine. I subsequently moved into the subspecialty of pain medicine, earning a Master’s in Pain Management from UCL and transitioning to a specialist-grade role.
This has included roles as a commissioner of MSK services as well as roles on the council of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, Clinical lead for diplomate members of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine, Vice-President of the British Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine, and member of the education board of the British Association of Sports and Exercise Medicine (BASEM).
I have a keen interest in medical education and combine my clinical role with a variety of teaching and training roles, from honorary lecturer to designing and delivering courses for a range of national education providers, including the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP), the Primary Care Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Medicine Society (PCRMM), Versus Arthritis, Red Whale and others.
I am a published author of The Musculoskeletal Practitioners’ Handbook, widely published by Elsevier, and a contributor to the 4th edition of Petty’s Principles of Musculoskeletal Treatment and Management, as well as publishing articles in a range of other publications.
