THE BETTER CLINICIAN PROJECT: MAKING ONLINE CLINICAL EDUCATION BETTER, SIMPLER AND MORE FUN
Keeping up with the latest research, developing clinical skills and providing the best possible care for patients isn't easy.
With thousands of research papers published every year, conflicting opinions across healthcare and increasingly expensive professional development courses, many clinicians struggle to find the time, money and confidence to stay current.
The Better Clinician Project (The BCP) was created to help change that.
Founded in 2019 by UK rehabilitation educators Adam Meakins and Ben Cormack, The BCP is an online educational platform designed to make continuing professional development (CPD) more practical, accessible, affordable and entertaining for healthcare professionals working with people experiencing pain, injury and disability.
Its philosophy is simple: Better education. Better clinicians. Better patient care.
WHAT IS THE BETTER CLINICIAN PROJECT?
The BCP is an online learning and professional development community created by clinicians, for clinicians.
It provides high-quality, evidence-informed education for physiotherapists, sports therapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, strength and conditioning coaches, personal trainers and other rehabilitation professionals.
Unlike traditional education that can be overly academic, expensive or disconnected from clinical reality, BCP focuses on turning complex research and clinical information into clear, practical and immediately useful knowledge.
The aim is not to tell clinicians exactly what to think or do, but to help them develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to think critically, make informed decisions and provide better care.
WHAT DOES THE BCP OFFER?
The BCP members gain access to an extensive and constantly expanding library of educational resources, including:
-
Clinical Reviews: Practical discussions about common musculoskeletal conditions, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management.
-
Research Reviews: Critical appraisals of the latest scientific research, separating meaningful findings from hype, bias and questionable conclusions.
-
Rehab Reviews: Practical demonstrations and discussions of exercise prescription, progression and rehabilitation strategies.
-
Expert Interviews: Conversations with leading researchers, clinicians and educators sharing their knowledge and experiences.
-
Quick Reference Guides: Downloadable resources that summarise key information for everyday clinical practice.
-
CPD Certificates: Personalised certificates available after completing monthly learning assessments.
-
Professional Community: Opportunities to connect, discuss ideas, challenge assumptions and learn from other clinicians.
With over 500 educational videos already available, new content added weekly and access through mobile devices and computers, members can learn wherever and whenever suits them.
Membership currently costs £15 per month or £150 annually, making ongoing education accessible without the substantial costs often associated with traditional courses.
WHO IS BEHIND THE BCP?
Adam Meakins is a UK physiotherapist, strength and conditioning specialist and internationally recognised clinical educator. Known for his direct, practical and often outspoken approach, Adam promotes evidence-informed practice, progressive rehabilitation and critical thinking while challenging myths, misinformation and unnecessary complexity within healthcare.
Ben Cormack is a UK musculoskeletal therapist, educator and founder of Cor-Kinetic. With extensive experience in rehabilitation, pain science, exercise and movement, Ben is internationally recognised for his practical, patient-centred approach and ability to communicate complex clinical concepts clearly.
Together, Adam and Ben combine their clinical experience, teaching expertise and distinct personalities to deliver education that is informative, challenging, thought-provoking and frequently entertaining.
WHY WAS THE BCP CREATED?
The BCP was born from a shared frustration with the way clinical education is often delivered.
At one end of the spectrum, traditional academic education can be expensive, time-consuming, overly complicated and difficult to translate into everyday practice.
At the other, social media offers quick and accessible information, but its quality, accuracy and reliability can vary enormously.
BCP aims to bridge this gap by providing education that combines the scientific credibility of good research with the accessibility and practicality of modern digital learning.
The founders also believe that good education should encourage discussion, healthy scepticism and critical thinking rather than promote rigid treatment methods, fashionable techniques or unquestioning loyalty to particular clinical approaches.
Most importantly, they believe that becoming a better clinician is an ongoing process, not a destination or a certificate on a wall.
A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION
Adam Meakins, co-founder of The Better Clinician Project, explains:
"There's an unbelievable amount of information out there for clinicians, but more information doesn't always mean better understanding or better patient care.
"We created BCP because we wanted to cut through the noise, challenge the nonsense and make high-quality clinical education easier to access, easier to understand and easier to apply.
"We're not here to tell clinicians we have all the answers, because we absolutely don't know them. We're here to help them ask better questions, think more critically and become more confident in their own clinical decisions."
Ben Cormack, co-founder, adds:
"Good clinical education shouldn't be about memorising protocols or blindly following what someone else does. It should develop your ability to understand evidence, appreciate uncertainty and adapt your approach to the individual in front of you.
"We wanted to create a platform that respected clinicians' time, intelligence and experience while making learning something people genuinely look forward to."
BETTER CLINICIANS. BETTER CARE.
Ultimately, The Better Clinician Project has one central ambition: to help rehabilitation professionals become more informed, confident, adaptable and effective in their clinical practice.
By making evidence-informed education affordable, practical and engaging, BCP aims to support better clinical reasoning, more thoughtful rehabilitation and improved experiences for the people clinicians care for.
Because better clinicians don't simply know more. They think better, question more and never stop learning.
